PLASTIC INJECTION MOLDING APPLICATIONS

Vinyl (PVS - Polyvinyl Chloride)

Most electrical wire coverings and plugs are made of vinyl.  It is the most widely used encapsulation material for injected electronic components.  It molds easily at low temperatures and will reproduce fine mold detail.  Most vinyls are heavily plasticized by the addition of oil-like materials.  It has poor temperature resistance and if over-heated, it discolors, can disintegrate and emit chlorine gas.  Vinyl can be solvent-banded but has low chemical resistance.  Low cost.
